What is the reason for streaks of blood in a child's stools?

My son is 5 months old and gets streaks of blood in his stools. We have been noticing this since he was 3 months old. His motion is greenish, watery and foamy with mucous at times. A stool culture was done and nothing seemed wrong. Is this something we need to be concerned about? Please advise.

Presence of streaks of blood in stool is not supposed to be normal. Please rule out an anal fissure, or GERD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease)or milk protein allergy. First confirm presence of blood in stool on routine microscopy. Then consult a paediatric gastroenterologist for further evaluation.
